9BF - Bull Frog

COLOR NAME: Bull Frog
COLOR CODES: 9BF
LURE(S) PICTURED: Vamp (7509BF), Zig-Wag (8309BF), Zig-Way (8309BF)
DESCRIPTION:

Green body with light yellow belly, light yellow irregular spots on body with black centers. Collectors often refer to this color as "Luny Frog" after the Heddon lure of that name. This color is identical to Green Frog (9B).

A later version of this color is similar in appearance but the spots are black with a green edging as on the Zig-Wag shown.

In the 1928 Heddon catalog, it says, "New 'Frog' Finishes on Other Heddon Baits.  To meet the demand for the famous 'Luny Frog' Finish in other baits, Heddon has placed this finish on the following lures - the famous 'Vamp - the erratic 'Zig-Wag' - the new 'Weedless Widow'. " In the 1928 catalog, this color for these lures is listed as 9B, Green Frog.

In the 1929 Heddon catalog, all three of those lures are pictured but the color is listed as Bull Frog, BF! (Pictures of Zig-Wags courtesy of Pete Lellos!)
